Ames Epoxy Flooring is an epoxy flooring contractor based in Ames, IA, with more than twenty years of experience coating garages, basements, shops and commercial floors across central Iowa. We work on the concrete first and the finish second, because nearly every coating failure we have been called to look at started with a slab that was never properly prepared or tested.

The homeowners, landlords and business owners we work with tend to want the same thing: a floor that holds up, a price that matches the work, and a straight answer when a slab is not ready to be coated. That is the standard we hold ourselves to on a one-car garage and on a plant floor alike, and it is why the first visit is spent looking at the concrete rather than handing over a color chart.

Our Approach

A floor crew member wheeling a dust extractor up the driveway of an Ames home on the first morning of a garage floor job.

Every slab we coat is opened with a diamond grinder or a shot blaster, never an acid etch, and the grinding dust goes into a vacuum at the machine rather than down a drain. Before a price is final, a moisture test goes into the written scope, on a new house as readily as an old one, and cracks, spalls, joints and old coatings are mapped so we can tell you honestly when a slab needs repair or replacement first. Basements are read for past water, with the sump pit and floor drain checked, since no coating stops seepage.

The proposal names the product line, the number of coats and the finished thickness, so you can check the floor against the quote, and we explain what the warranty leaves out before you sign, starting with moisture. Cure schedules follow slab temperature and dew point rather than the calendar, which means an unheated garage in an Iowa winter is told to wait. Low-odor products are offered as a comfort choice, slip resistance is specified by the broadcast and topcoat, and a coating is never sold as radon work. For rentals, labs, plants and shops, we schedule around lease turnover, shifts and research timelines, including nights and weekends.

What We Do

We install epoxy garage floors, flake and metallic epoxy floors, polyaspartic coatings, basement floor coatings and polished concrete, along with the concrete grinding and floor repair that come before them. For businesses, we build commercial, industrial, ESD and commercial kitchen floors suited to the traffic, chemicals and cleaning each space sees. If you have a floor in mind, request a free estimate and we will come look at the slab before we quote it.
